Life can be better. People want to believe this, but it can be frustrating when your own efforts to make it happen are not working. My job is to help people improve their lives. I have seen people make changes in therapy, many times. So, I have faith that life can be better, with help and effort.
People seek psychotherapy for any number of reasons. You may want someone with a patient ear to help you sort through a problem so that you don’t need to be concerned about hurting loved ones. You may have intense anxiety in a specific situation or problems in a relationship. You may have more ongoing struggles, such as chronic depression, anxiety, substance use, or simply an inability to get on with life.
If you are considering therapy you may feel frustration, anger, loneliness or despair, or all of these feelings. You may be struggling with reactions or symptoms you don’t understand or don’t know how to manage. You may even suspect that at times your own choices may contribute to your difficulties.
If you are looking for a therapist, you have probably tried many solutions that haven’t worked. When someone comes to therapy I know that they have tried hard already to solve their problems. If the solution were simple, they would have succeeded.
I will listen and provide support, and help you clarify what is causing the problem.
To do this we will talk together so that we understand your whole situation, past and present. We will look at the role of relationships, physical problems, work and financial stresses, life stage issues or losses, and feelings. We will recognize your strengths. Understanding these aspects of your life will help you overcome or learn to manage what brings you to therapy.
Using this understanding we will decide together on goals for therapy. We will choose a strategy for change that honors the better life you seek.
I am available to see new clients during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering tele-therapy services via secure videoconferencing and phone.
